Neurodermatitis in Baquba City, Diyala Governorate/Iraq Clinical and histopathological study

Background: Many patients that have itchy thickened skin lesions are lichenified, it's located on the extremities namely knees, feet, dorsum of hands, and /or elbows was being seen bilaterally may be symmetrically. Objective: To evaluate clinical histopathological features neurodermatitis with some similarities to psoriasis in Iraqi patients. Patients Methods: Twenty- Five attending Department Dermatology, Baquba Teaching Hospital were enrolled this study time between 1st January 2020 31th 2021. All examined full history taken, including age patients, onset duration disease, severity type itching. A examination done identify character, colour, shape, site, involvement other body site lesion. Incisional biopsy specimens from both lesion adjacent normal obtained 9 submitted histological assessment. Results: Ten (40%) male fifteen (60%) females, their ranged 29-70 years, a mean 49.5 years. The average one month- 15 years median 7.5 Clinically; severe plaques distributed like those psoriasis, knees (56%), elbows, also having ( lichenification ,that is characterized by thickening exaggeration lines ) which characteristic individual lichen simplex chronicus, these symmetrical, well defined, sharper, more keratotic, violaceous pigmentation, marked accentuation skin. Nine specimens' taken for histopathologiacl findings showed hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, dermal papilomatosis, suprapapillary epidermal thinning. mentioned itching paroxysmal typing, evening.
